Unit 9 Puppet Workshop is a collaborative venture led by Max Humphries, Chuck Brown, and Charlie Findlay. Their unique style emerges from a fusion of distinct skills and techniques.
Max Humphries specializes in mechanism design and engineering, while Chuck Brown focuses on sculpting, fabrication, and the final aesthetic of the puppets. Charlie Findlay bridges these two disciplines, ensuring that the engineering and character design integrate seamlessly while supervising the build team. Together, they create puppets that move with ease and grace, designed to enhance the overall performance.
The workshop is responsible for the Olivier Award-winning productions Dinosaur World Live and Dragons and Mythical Beasts, as well as adaptations of children’s books such as The Lion Inside and The Koala who Could.
Other notable mentions include Father Christmas at the Lyric Hammersmith, which has been running since 2012; The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe - Elliot and Harper Productions; Luzia - Cirque du Soleil, and Into The Woods, a multi-award winning production at the Bridge Theatre.
